One of the events that was attended by several students this past week was the Sales Certificate Program. During this program, students received a sales certification after attending two separate sessions where they listened to sales professionals from several companies, including AeroTek, TekSystems, ABC Supply Company, and Northwestern Mutual. Here, a panel of employees from each of the companies talked about the importance of selling, beginning at its most basic forms as well as the foundations of sales: presenting & closing, and report & needs assessment.
After returning from New Orleans, I think I can speak for most of us when I say we’re all experiencing some post-NOLA blues. From the beautiful weather, authentic food, being surrounded by marketers from all over the country, and let’s not forget the Hurricane drinks, it all made the weekend one that we will never forget.
One of the first seminars I attended was the “Career Advice” Q&A, which entailed four seasoned professionals with a wide range of industry experience.
SJFC/AMA had the pleasure of listening to Peter Horst, CMO of The Hershey Company, explain why marketing is such a wonderful profession. Horst’s career path has taken him into industries he could have never fathomed, from working on Entourage, to being a radio host, to even becoming a paralegal. Ultimately, Horst realized that the only industry that quenched his thirst for innovation was marketing.
Horst gave 3 reasons why a career in marketing is the best and most rewarding, and why you should pursue a career in marketing.
