As a subsidiary of the Spanish energy company, Iberdrola, Martz was presented the opportunity that she couldn’t pass up: going to Spain.            For the next two years, Christine Martz, a 2012 graduate of St. John Fisher and SJFC/AMA alumni, will embark on a journey and leave everything she knows behind. In April, Martz will step on a plane for Bilbao, Spain and travel some 2,600 miles to her new home for the next two [maybe three] years.

In a few short months, not only will she be landing in Spain, but she’ll be undertaking a new role in the finance department – the only hitch; she currently works in the purchasing department. Her switch in departments reflects her ambition to one day become a project manager, and she knows becoming versatile in multiple departments will set her on track to become just that.

But don’t worry; she’s not just going to be dropped off in a foreign land – AVANGRID makes sure the transition goes smoothly. Martz, along with a handful of other Americans will spend a significant amount of time learning Spanish culture and all its little nuances.

If all goes well, Martz will return to the United States with a whole new set of skills and a whole lot of new culture ingrained in her. It’s important in today’s ever-changing landscape that people become aware of their surroundings, in particular on the international front. It’s an admirable feat that she’s undertaking to better herself, her company, and ultimately the world because just like she’ll come back with a little Spanish in her, she’ll leave a little American culture behind – and that never hurt anybody.
